Posted in Article by admin on the August 5th, 2006

With the identity theft going on these days it is a good idea to consider private registration when registering a domain name. With registrar’s competing with each other, a typical .com registration averages from $6.95 to $35.00 per year.

Private registrations can be purchased for as little as $1.00 to $1.95 per year. This is a small price to pay for the security of your information. Not only will your address information be private, but your email will also be secured.

When purchasing a domain name, assume the name will cost $9.95 per year. This takes into count the $1 or $2 for private registration. With other registrar’s prices as much as $35 per year, $9.95 is next to nothing. The domain will only have to bring in $0.03 per day to break even at the end of the year.

Another way to protect your information on the internet when registering domain names is to purchase a Postal Mailbox (PO Box). This can be done at your local Post Office or online through a Mailbox center. These centers will accept your mail and list the sender’s address online for your viewing. You can choose which mail you want them to forward to you and which you want them to discard. For added security, you can purchase this type of service from a center in another state, and then have your mail forwarded to your home address.

If you have a large portfolio, the option described above may be the better financial decision for you; however, if your portfolio is smaller, you may want to consider Private Registrations.
